Jake

Okay I thought I'd do a Jake post. He is such a happy little boy, so fun! He is rolling from his front to his back, laughing, snuggly, sleeping about 7 hours at night, and huge! At 3 and a half months he's 16lbs 11oz and 25 1/4 inches. 90th percentile for both. He loves being wrapped still, sucking on his fingers and chewing his blankets and I can't believe he'll be starting on solids soon.

Where have all the swippers gone?

You're probably wondering what I'm talking about, but once you understand it has to do with my almost three-year old you will understand. No, I'm not talking about those handy disposable mops, but several pairs of polly pocket shoes or "swippers" as Claire calls them. Though the packaging says SPECIFICALLY three and older, of course I believed my little Claire was much more mature and could handle all of the little parts, despite what was the recommended age, because after all - MY child is the smartest, cutest, and funniest kid that ever walked the planet. Well I finally figured out where all of them were going...

That's right the other night I found one up her nose. It could have ended up much worse. I was luckily able to pull it out with tweezers. But it made me wonder, where had all of the other little slippers gone? She had lost SEVERAL of them. My mind went immediately to that episode of Simpsons where Homer sticks the crayons up his nose as a child. Click here for your viewing pleasure.

After we got it out, Claire and I couldn't stop laughing. I know I shouldn't have laughed because she'll think it's cute and do it again, but I couldn't get the image of her pure little face and the bulging nostril out of my head. At least she said she was sorry. Needless to say, no more "swippers" any time soon.

Fair Fun

Just wanted to post a few pictures from the fair. Claire had a blast at the petting zoo and the merry-go-round and we all enjoyed the delicious food. I highly recommend the funnel cake with berries and icecream Yum!

Note the picture with her dolls, she lined them all up with beds and blankets so they could all see the movie. Claire really seems to have grown up the past few weeks. She's such a good helper with Jake, we're making progress with potty training, she's doing better with staying out of trouble, although this week she found my nail polish and decided to paint her nails. I was impressed she got all of her fingers and only a drop on herself - it could have been MUCH worse. And we went and got her hair cut, her second REAL hair cut, we cut off about 3 inches, which makes me want to cry because it makes her look older somehow. Also, since I realized she will be 3 soon and possibly going to preschool next year. I thought it'd be a good idea to start a little routine in the morning. So she has a chore chart, she gets to put stickers on when she makes her bed, brushes her teeth, cleans up and gets dressed. After her chores, we have "school". Really we just sing a song about the days of the week and we write the date, then we go outside to look at the weather for the day and she picks out which picture it is that day (cloudy, sunny etc.) Then we talk about a letter or number and what it looks like and how it sounds and then we usually have something to color. It's hard to keep her attention, but I don't push it too hard and she does really good some days. She's getting tall too-taller than most her age I believe. I'm hoping to get her enrolled in a gymnastics or dance class after her birthday. I can't believe how big she's getting!

We've had a crazy month, Chris quit his job at Wells Fargo Financial and is now employed with Scientech as an accountant. He has his own office and everything! It's also a much more professional setting so I think he will be much more appreciated. So this month while Chris had a few weeks off I got a part time job! I haven't worked in 3 years so it was fun to get out of the house while Chris became Mr. Mom. Though it was a fun experience, I'm glad I don't HAVE to work and that this will be my last week. On top of that we have had a revolving cold go through our house for the past month. Three month olds with colds are NO fun. He's been pretty good considering, but has lost his voice twice now, the poor little guy. I've got the cold right now, so when I got home last night I popped a night time cold medicine and went downstairs to bed where I found Chris stepping in a half inch of water covering much of our basement. We were up until 3 am cleaning things up. And in case you were wondering, taking a night time medicine and then trying to stay up late is NOT a good idea. So Chris and I got to sleep on the couches last night. It's times like these I HATE owning a home.
We've also had our tomatoes, apples, and plums FINALLY ready so I've been trying my hand at a few different things including fruit leather and spaghetti sauce, I'll let you know how it turns out and if it's REALLY worth it. I'm super excited because I got a new accessory for my Kitchenaid mixer to make applesauce with. Yeah! It's also times like these where I LOVE owning a home and being able to do all this homemaking type stuff. So I guess there's good and bad sides to having a home. Though I don't always act like it, I am very grateful for our little home.

Long time no blog...

Or at least it seems! It's been like two weeks really, but a lot has happened. Chris' sister Danielle was married last weekend in the new Rexburg Temple. It turned out well and it was nice to see all of Chris' family together. We got a cute family picture there in front of the temple.

Also, I finally started getting garden veggies! It has been a late season here in Idaho and I am finally getting tomatoes and green beans. Jana helped me bottle green beans and I got 12 pints! Pretty good for my tiny little garden.

Finally Jacob will be 3 months this week and we can't believe how much he has grown. He is already in 6-9 months clothing, at this pace I'm going to go broke buying clothes for this little guy. He is teething already too and is super drooly as you can tell from the photo - this was after he had already soaked through his bib. He is so much fun and really a happy baby.
