Olympic Dreams

I love watching the Olympics, gymnastics is my FAVORITE! I think back to when I watched the Olympics as a little girl, after I watched the gymnastics portion I would go to the yard and practice my round-offs, flips, and bridges, I even recall asking my mom if I could quit school to focus on my gymnastics:) Unfortunately that didn't happen. I also look back at all of us in our feet pajamas during the winter olympics pretending we were Kristy Yamaguchi or Katarina Whitt, sliding across the carpet with our slippery feet. I don't think an Olympics has passed by (yes, even now) where I didn't practice my landing stance, arms out, head back. I just love it all. What I wouldn't give to fly on the uneven bars or do backflips on the balance beam, or better yet stand on the olympic step raising my gold metal and waving to all my adoring fans. If I could do anything, Olympic gynmast would definitely be high up on my list. It reminds me how I really am just a kid at heart and that I'm glad to be an American, but most importantly that I have a daughter now that I can live my unfulfilled dreams through... I just hope she's good at gymnastics.

2 Months

I can't believe our little Jake is already 2 months old. It's gone by so fast. At his well baby check up he weighed 15 lbs 13 oz!! That's 99.5 percentile! Which means he's gained just about 3lbs in two weeks and tops everyone almost in his age group. He definitely takes after his daddy who weighed 17 lbs at 2 months. He was 85 % for height, at 24 inches and 65% for head circumference. He's doing great. He is a happy little guy who is always smiling and just a sweetheart. We love him so much and are so glad he's in our family.

Our New Blog

So Hilary and I are always swapping deals, and you know how I love to post my deals, so we've decided to colaborate and have started our own blog! Basically we'll just be posting our great deals of the week and have links to our favorite sites, etc. So if you want to be a savvy shopper like us, visit our blog - slicksaver.blogspot.com. I'll have a link to it here on this blog.

A special thanks to our mom, the ultimate savvy shopper.

Bookcase

I thought I'd show you a picture of what I've been working on.

I got this idea from the potterybarn kids catalogue and I just loved it so I tried to copy it. Of course it's not nearly as nice, but it gets the job done and I think it turned out pretty cute- just don't look to close!

Here's the one from potterybarn

Why moms do the things they do.

I decided I needed to blog a few recent "mom" experiences because if I didn't make light of the situations I just might start to get discouraged and never want to leave the house again. So I was at the store yesterday, I had an errand I had been trying to do for about a week now, but it seemed to never work out for me to go so I decided that I had to get it done that day. We were checking out, of course that's always crazy with two kids. Jake was getting restless and Claire was in tantrum mode because I realized when we got to the check out stand that she had been sneakily putting things into the cart without me realizing and now I had four balls to set somewhere without them rolling away and a very unhappy two year old because I wouldn't let her have the balls. I'm dragging claire to the cart to set her inside so she doesn't run away and she steps on my foot and breaks my flip flop. I could hardly walk with the stupid thing so I got some super glue for the next errand and we were on our unhappy way. We get to the next store and Claire's mad because I'm making her sit in the cart and then I realize the super glue didn't work and my shoe is broken still. I wasn't backing down, I had to get this stupid thing done so I grab my shoe and walk around the whole store with one shoe on and one in my hand, while Claire is screaming. I love two-year olds.

This next "situation" happened a week or so ago. I found a great deal on a double stroller and decided to get it so I didn't go crazy with two kids in the house. We get to the store and immediate tantrum, Claire is just really great at that I've decided. We get the stroller and put the ginormous box on top of the cart. Well Claire runs away. I can't run after her because I have jake who's also crying and and giant box on the cart, I turn to go towards her and the box falls off and gets lodged somehow under the shelf. I can't get it unstuck meanwhile Claire is somewhere in the next couple of aisles doing who knows what. Lets just say I got to the checkout finally with two very unhappy children and one not so happy mommy. I did get the box unlodged with a few tugs. I think the cashier could see on my face that I was at the end of my rope and she helped me out to my car. What a nice lady! So not so fun, but at least I have a wonderful new stroller! Okay now that I've written them down they don't seem that bad, which is good because there are much worse things I could be dealing with. And on my way home I saw a car get rear-ended so I think heavenly father was helping me see that things aren't so bad, even if they seem like it at the time. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

And in case you were wondering, this is the stroller I ended up with.
